Coordinates, Mapwork and Directions

In Room 8 we have been learning about Maps, Coordinates and Directions. To help us understand about these, we did lots of activities. We did things like floor plans and drawing our own maps.  Throughout the week we also practised our compass directions. They are North, North-North East, North East, East, East South East, South East, South-south east, South, South South West, South West, West South West, West, West North West, North West, North-North West and back to North.The map work was also to help us on school camp next week for some of our activities. I am now good at Mapwork, Directions and Coordinates. At the end of the week we did a big treasure map where we used somebody's map they had made and a few people buried the treasure at the end. The treasure was boxes of rose chocolates, they were sooooo good. Thanks Miss B.

Paper Planes

Paper Planes

Yesterday Room 8 had a Paper plane competition. The day before and on the day, we looked up designs and made them. I made 2 but decided to use my Glider. Once we all had our paper planes, we walked out to the verandah with our seats and sat in rows while we waited till our turn. Since measuring the exact distance took longer than we wanted, we decided that we would just set up cones a couple of centimeters apart from each one and say what cone we got up to. Withs 9 cones, Jono came first, then Stella with 8 and I came third with 7 cones.

Hero

Hero

I think a hero is someone that you admire and look up to. Someone that has courage, is brave and that will put other people before themselves. What do you think a Hero is? Some words that I think of when I hear the word hero are Courage, Brave and Sacrifice. What words do you think of when you here Hero? Do you have a hero? I think that my hero would be my Mum and Dad because they do lots of things for me.
