  • Date of action- 11 August 1943
  • Date of award- 2 November 1943

Lloyd was a salesman from New Zealand, he joined the RNZAF in june 1941. 

How he earned the VC- During a operational sortie on 11 august 1943, Lloyd sighted U-468 on the surface. Despite being hit repeatedly by anti-aircraft fire. Trigg pressed home his attack and fatally damaged the german submarine with depth charges. His crippled liberator then crashed into the sea with the loss of all 8 crew. German survivors praised Trigg's courage after they were picked up by an Allied ship.

    Thank you for sharing some information about Lloyd Trigg. He sounds like a very courageous man and well deserving of the Victoria Cross award. There are many tricky words in this little reading. Are you able to find out what some of these things mean?

    *allied

    I know that 'anti-aircraft' fire are the weapons they used to attack the aircraft's. For example they used guns and guided missiles to defend themselves from the aircraft's in the sky.

      I think crippled means severely damaged.
      I think liberator was the type of plane he was flying.
      I think allied means countries that helped Britain fight in the war.
